Limits of Transparent Justice

On December 01 and 02, 2016 the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic has organized an international conference entitled „Limits of Transparent Justice“ taking place on the occasion of the Slovak presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Supreme Court has thereby created a space for an expert international discussion on the topic of openness and transparency of the judiciary and its relationship with the public.
Besides the President of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic, Ms. Daniela Švecová, the conference was attended also by the President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Mr. Koen Lenaerts and Mr. Henry duPont Ridgely, Judge Emeritus of the Delaware Supreme Court, United States. Mr. Andrei Richter, Senior Advisor at OSCE Office of the Representative on Freedom of the Media, Presidents of the Supreme Courts and judges from fifteen member states of the European Union, representatives of the non-governmental organisations Transparency International Slovakia and VIA IURIS and the chief editor of Hospodárske noviny periodical, Ms. Marcela Šimková, delivered their speeches at the conference.
The participants of the conference discussed on topics concerning the legislative framework of the courts’ communication with the public and media, publishing of court decisions, involvement of the public in the judicial proceedings, protection of privacy of the parties to the proceedings, new media and their influence on the judiciary, control of the judiciary by the public and the internal and external communication of the courts.
