On Tuesday, February 09, 2016 the President of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic (“Supreme Court”), Ms. Daniela Švecová, met the President of the Court of Justice of the European Union (“CJEU”), Mr. Koen Lenaerts and the judge of the CJEU, Mr. Daniel Šváby. During their meeting they were discussing the CJEU case law and the most important cases relating to the Slovak Republic. Ms. Daniela Švecová explained the situation at the Supreme Court, whereby she was interested in whether at the CJEU there is also a problem with high number of cases brought to it.
After discussion with the President of the Supreme Court, Mr. Lenaerts met the representatives of the respective divisions of the Supreme Court. He discussed the ongoing organizational reform of the CJEU with Ms. Soňa Mesiarkinová, chairman of the Civil-Law Division, Mr. Libor Duľa, chairman of the Criminal-Law Division, Mr. Jozef Milučký, chairman of the Administrative Division and Ms. Andrea Moravčíková, judge of the Commercial-Law Division. At the end of the meeting Mr. Lenaerts expressed his hope that the national courts will be more active at referring preliminary questions to the Court of Justice, which shall contribute to the European Union law unification.
